Canada's Minister of National Defence Visit to East Africa Omits Rwanda
Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan is off to East Africa. He will visit the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from August 9-16, 2016.
Significantly, Minister Sajjan will not visit Kagame's iron-fisted regime in Rwanda.
Canada Department of Defence as has issued the following statement:
"Canada values its rich and deep relationship with African partners, and recognizes the importance of a strong African voice in addressing global peace and security challenges. During this visit, Minister Sajjan will engage with senior host government officials, the African Union Commission, United Nations representatives, as well as members of civil society and non-governmental organizations. This visit will help inform Canada’s re-engagement in peace operations and support its ongoing work related to Canada’s Defence Policy Review."
We wish the Minister a great visit and successful re-engagement in peace-building efforts in Africa.
