Good News From the Great Lakes - Kenya Becomes A Donor Nation

Unknown

The Great Lakes region has its fair share of bad news. In DRC, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, and South Sudan most news is dominated by dictators maneuvering to cling to power.
Here comes Kenya.
In the ongoing Global Fund Replenishment meeting taking place in Montreal, Canada, the Government of Kenya has pledged US$5 million. Great news and good example.
As a Rwandan-Canadian, I am also pleased that the Justin Trudeau government has pledged US$785 million, a 20 per cent increase from its previous commitment.
Trudeau is hosting the replenishment conference to help to raise US$13 billion. It is estimated that such amount would save eight million people while preventing 300 million new infections by 2019.

Patrice Lumumba Full Movie - With English Subtitles

Unknown
Patrice Lumumba
Patrice Lumumba was a Congolese independence leader and the first democratically elected leader of the Congo. As founder and leader of the mainstream Mouvement national congolais (MNC) party, Lumumba played an important role in campaigning for independence from Belgium, threatening Belgium's access to Congo's rich natural resources.

Within twelve weeks of Congolese independence in 1960, Lumumba's government was deposed in a coup organised by the Belgium Government who encouraged in the resource rich Katanga province to succeed from Congolese rule in an attempt to guarantee Belgium's continued access to Congolese resources after Congo's independence. During the Congo Crisis Patrice Lumumba was subsequently imprisoned by state authorities under Mobutu and executed by firing squad. The United Nations, which he had asked to come to the Congo, did not intervene to save him. Mobutu Sese Soko then went on to rule Congo as a dictator for the next 30 years with the full support of the Belgian Government. This documentary provides first hand witness reports that claim Belgium, the United States, and the United Kingdom have all had involvement in Patrice Lumumba's death.

CNRD-Ubwiyungu Does not have any Territorial Ambition in the Democractic Republic of Congo

Unknown

Press release No. 002 / CP / 16.

AA/Lumbumbashi/Heritier Maila
The National Council for Renewal and Democracy (CNRD-Ubwiyunge) is horrified by the misinformation circulating on social media including the website "www.direct.cd" which wrote in on of it’s published article that CNRD-UBWIYUNGE is a movement seeking to destabilize peace in Democractic Republic of Congo.

The CNRD-UBWIYUNGE has taken this oppoturnity to inform the public, the Congolese people and the international community that this information is groundless. Indeed, the CNRD-UBWIYUNGE was found on 31, May 2016 by Rwandan refugees in Democratic Republic of Congo and around the world. The objectives of the CNRD-UBWIYUNGE includes the following:

  1. Plead the cause of the Rwandan refugees. Throughout the world but especially those located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. You will notice that CNRD-Ubwiyunge works closely with the Democratic Republic of Congo government institutions, UNHCR, humanitarian NGOs, and many other organisations to ensure that our refugee population are:

    A. Recognize
    B. Secured and protected
    C. Receiving Humanitarian Assistance.

  2. Return dignity to all Rwandan Refugees. We this by working with other opposition parties to pressure the RPF-Inkotanyi regime to open political space and is committed to the path of dialogue with the real political opposition.
  3. Create true reconciliation between the ethnic that make up the Rwandan Society. Here we fight all forms of impunity and advocate for a Rwandan society where everyone is equal before the law.

The above mentioned evidence, concludes that , the CNRD-UBWIYUNGE has no territorial ambition in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Instead, it intends to offer its experience to build an enduring peace in the Great Lakes region of Africa, through legal and political means under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Information linking the CNRD-UBWIYUNGE to those who want to destabilize the peace of the Congolese people within harmful propaganda orchestrated by the detractors of the CNRD-UBWIYUNGE. We strongly disagree and we against those lies that are being circulating on social media.

The authors of this article which was published in ‘Direct.Cd’ should exercise intellectual, honesty and seek information from the concerned individuals rather than doing a propagandist press.

Ongoing attacks on Rwandan refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Unknown
Referring to the 12 June 2016 dated report, from the Rwandan refugee representative in North Kivu Mr Manassé Munyakazi, on the attacks and killings of Rwandan Hutu refugees, who dissociated from the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), that started in the morning of 11 June 2016 around 8:30, in the valleys and mountains among MWESO, KASHUGA, NYANZALE and KIKUKU villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and commanded by Major General Gaston Iyamuremye alias Victor Byiringiro Rumuli;

Rwandan refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Referring to the news, published by a Rwandan online newspaper VERITASINFO on 13 June 2016, about the call for help from the refugees attacked;
 With reference to the 11 June 2016 phone interview between one of those Rwandan refugees who were attacked, Mrs Agnès Ayinkamiye and the Journalist of Radio-Itahuka, Mr Serge Ndayizeye (see the attached interview translation);

Referring to the reports we kept receiving from other refugees in the North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo;

We would like to inform the Rwandans, journalists and international organizations the following:
1.We condemn Major General Gaston Iyamuremye’s decision to attack and kill Rwandan refugees he was supposed to protect. Such a decision is not different from the Rwandan government agenda of killing Rwandan Hutu refugees still present in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s jungles, since 1996 until now. Note that there are more than 250, 000 Hutu refugees still in those forests.

2.We demand that Major General Gaston Iyamuremye alias Victor Byiringiro and his combatants stop immediately attacking and killing refugees that they had protected for more than 20 years.
3.We implore the United Nations — UN, the Southern African Development Community — SADEC, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees — UNHCR, the European Union — EU, and the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo to firmly condemn such crimes that are currently being committed by Major General Gaston Iyamuremye against Rwandan Hutu refugees.

4.We implore the International Criminal Court –ICC to conduct investigations and get Major General Gaston Iyamuremye alias Victor Byiringiro Rumuli arrested, as well as others who massacred Hutu refugees.
